The Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim MP today launched Wendy Heatley as the Greens’ candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Pembroke.
Mr McKim said that Ms Heatley, a senior public servant and lawyer, would bring much needed change in the Legislative Council.
“Ms Heatley brings strong legal, financial and managerial skills and a proven track record as an advocate for community empowerment through her work at Legal Aid,” Mr McKim said.
“The Legislative Council is simply holding Tasmania back, and Wendy will bring the positive, progressive and forward-looking agenda that is so desperately needed.”
“The Upper House has blocked marriage equality, entrenched big tobacco’s corruption of politics, opposed Aboriginal land rights, and stood in the way of the forest industry restructure.”
“I believe Tasmanians are increasingly concerned about the need for new blood and new ideas in the Legislative Council, and Wendy fits the bill perfectly.”
