The Tasmanian Greens today announced Wendy Heatley as the Greens’ candidate for the Legislative Council seat of Pembroke.
Ms Heatley is senior public servant and lawyer who previously stood for Pembroke in the 2009 by-election, where she polled second on primary votes.
She holds a Master of Business Administration and researched partnerships between industry and educational institutions in the United States as a Fulbright scholar.
“Addressing the needs and concerns of small businesses is critical to the Tasmanian economy and will be a central platform of my campaign,” Ms Heatley said.
“We need to create our own future and promote entrepreneurship, electronic infrastructure and collective marketing.”
“As the lone Liberal Member in the Upper House Vanessa Goodwin has brought only negativity, obstruction and cheap politics to the debate, where genuine scrutiny was needed.”
“We also need action on same sex marriage to ensure equality before the law. Tasmania could lead Australia and inject $96 million into the local economy.”
“I want to see reform of the Legislative Council, including removing the power to block a budget and send the Lower House to an election without ever facing the people themselves.”
“The Legislative Council needs renewal from within so it is more accountable and responsive to the needs of the community”.
