With only ten days left before Ten Days on the Island opens, the buzz is building and Tasmanians are poised to
enjoy the wondrous sights, extraordinary sounds and amazing artists who will soon be performing in all corners
of the State.
While Tasmanians are browsing the festival programme, selecting and booking their shows, the Ten Days team
is working at full speed finalising artist schedules, conducting equipment checks and ensuring all aspects of the
festival are in place and ready for the opening night on 15 March.
Ten Days on the Island Executive Director and Producer Marcus Barker said ticket sales are strong and the
response to Artist Director Jo Duffy’s first festival programme has been very positive.
“The countdown to the festival is always incredibly exciting, and tickets to several events are selling very
quickly this year,” Mr Barker said.
“In fact, tickets for world class soprano Dame Kiri Te Kanawa are now sold out in Hobart, with limited tickets
still available for her performances in Launceston and Burnie.
“The flagship theatrical inclusion in the festival, The Select (The Sun Also Rises) has also attracted a lot of
attention, which is no surprise given that it is a production from the leading New York company, Elevator
Repair Service (ERS).
“ERS is one of New York’s most celebrated contemporary theatre companies, known for its combination of
comedy, energy and wild choreography.
“The Select (The Sun Also Rises) is going to keep everyone talking until at least the next festival, so we are really
pleased to bring it to Hobart for an Australian exclusive season after it has thrilled audiences in New York, Dublin
and Edinburgh.
“Shadow Dreams is another exciting and innovative world premiere featured in the festival, which will utilise
the National Broadband Network to create a unique storytelling experience, to be staged simultaneously in two
theatres from opposite ends of the State.”
With artists flying in from the far corners of the world, from as far away as Scotland, Corsica and Cape Breton
located off mainland Canada, the ten festival towns of Hobart, Launceston, Burnie, Huonville, Campbell Town,
Swansea, St Helens, Deloraine, Queenstown, Devonport & Latrobe are on standby as the countdown begins.
Ten Days on the Island runs from 15 – 24 March 2013, and all programming, venue and ticketing information is
