The Tasmanian Greens have announced Pippa Brinklow as the Greens’ candidate for Lyons at the upcoming Federal Election.
Pip is a former Director of Care who has spent the last 20 years developing and managing health and aged care, community housing and vocational education and training programs throughout Tasmania.
Tasmanian Greens Senator Peter Whish-Wilson launched Ms Brinklow’s campaign today (1 March 2013).
“Pip is known for her great work in the community. She’s played a lead role in securing improved health and aged care services to regional areas,” Senator Whish-Wilson said.
“Pip’s concern about the lack of quality vocational education and training opportunities in rural and regional areas prompted her to set up a training centre that has now helped hundreds of job seekers in Lyons gain qualifications and employment,” he said.
Pip has lived and raised a family in Lyons for over 20 years and currently lives in New Norfolk with her partner Tim Morris, Deputy Leader of the Tasmanian Greens. Pip and Tim are often seen side-by-side as they travel the length and breadth of the electorate.
“I have had the privilege to serve and listen to the people of Lyons for many years, and I am ready to represent them in Federal Parliament,” Ms Brinklow said.
“I’m standing for the Greens because they are an alternative voice in parliament. The Greens have the guts to stand up with people – the real heroes – for a caring society.”
“There is a clear and unmistakable mood for change in the electorate of Lyons. People are looking for someone to represent them who has energy, vision and a genuine track record of working hard for the community.”
“Now is not the time to hide from change, or remain entrenched in the ways of the past that have held Tasmania back for far too long.”
“There are a growing number of voters who want their political representatives to embrace new ways of thinking –twenty first century ideas – in confronting the issues facing our state.”
Tim Morris, Deputy Leader of the Tasmanian Greens
