The Tasmanian Greens today expressed disappointment with Australia Post’s decision to axe its Express Post services in the north of the State.
Greens Member for Bass, Kim Booth MP, said it was a setback for northern Tasmanians, particularly for small businesses that rely on overnight delivery.
“Not only will the interstate Express Post services be lost, but this will put jobs at risk as well,” Mr Booth said.
“Calls to my office have indicated that many businesses who rely on next-day mail to and from interstate locations are very concerned about how this decision will affect their ability to operate to established capacity.”
“Modern business demands efficient and effective delivery options and this decision puts business operations in the north of the state at a distinct disadvantage.”
“It is not too late for Australia Post to reverse this dreadful decision and treat the people of northern Tasmania with the equity that everyone would expect from a public entity,” said Mr Booth.
