The Tasmanian Farmers and Graziers Association has organised an information session in Launceston next Wednesday for farmers who have leases with Gunns to grow plantation timber.
The purpose of the meeting is to allow farmers to discuss the latest developments concerning their leases with the appointed administrator of Gunns Plantations Ltd, PPB Advisory.
The administration period is due to end at the end of this month but PPB has proposed it be extended until the end of June.
It is an effective standstill period in which landholders would continue to receive no rent on the leases and the trees would remain the property of investors in Gunns’ various schemes. Part of the reason for the extension is for the administrators to secure a replacement responsible entity for the schemes.
PPB Advisory says there are about 560 leases with more than 330 different landowners, covering 220,000 ha.
TFGA chief executive Jan Davis said a lawyer would also be on hand to explain the situation and farmers’ options.
“It is complex and we urge all affected landowners, regardless of whether they are TFGA members, to attend,” she said.
The meeting will be held at The Boathouse, 55A Lindsay Street, Invermay (opposite the former Gunns’ offices), 5.00 – 6.30 pm, on Wednesday, January 16.
