The Independent Member for Denison, Andrew Wilkie, will today mark the granting of a Medicare Licence for MRI scans conducted by Radiology Tasmania.

“This is wonderful news because Radiology Tasmania can now bulk bill pensioners, health care card holders and children under 16,” Mr Wilkie said. “This will reduce waiting times for these patients from 2-3 weeks to 2-3 days.

“In Australia the number of licences is restricted and without a licence there are no Medicare rebates. As a result up until now patients have had to pay the full cost of MRI scans themselves at the Radiology Tasmania clinic.”

Mr Wilkie congratulated Radiology Tasmania for being one of only seven clinics in the nation to be awarded a full MRI licence in 2011.

The licence took effect on 1 November 2012.
