A survey by Asthma Australia has revealed only 18 per cent of people know how to help a
person during an asthma attack.

To combat this, Asthma Australia has partnered with CareMonkey, an online health and
safety resource, to make it easy for people to share care instructions electronically with GPs
or trusted carers.

Asthma Foundation of Tasmania CEO Cathy Beswick said sharing up-to-date information
about asthma could help keep people safe, especially those more vulnerable within the
community, such as children.

“A major concern for people with asthma is others knowing how to help them in the event of
an asthma attack and CareMonkey provides Asthma Australia’s national Asthma First Aid
response to include in a person’s profile,” Ms Beswick said.

“Using the CareMonkey website, a user can create profiles containing information such as
emergency contacts, allergies, medications, asthma plans, immunisations, family history,
blood type, organ donor details, health and ambulance insurance details and much more.
“CareMonkey saves people from having to constantly provide copies of health care plans and
allows them to update asthma plans instantly and circulate the changes faster than ever.

“Asthma Australia and CareMonkey are committed to helping people with health needs to
live more safely in the community and together support the benefits of quality
communication about asthma.”

If you have asthma, or care for someone with asthma, you can upload asthma plans and care
instructions and share this important information with trusted carers. The CareMonkey
website app is free for anyone to use and is available at www.caremonkey.com.
