The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed the parliamentary approval of Peter Whish-Wilson to the Senate, who is replacing outgoing Senator Bob Brown.
Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said it was sad to see a living legend like Bob Brown step down but that Peter Whish-Wilson was the best candidate to replace him.
“Today was historic for the Tasmanian Greens, with the first time the Tasmanian Parliament has ratified a Greens Senator,” said Mr McKim.
“Peter will make an outstanding Senator and is a strong addition to the Federal MPs team.”
“Peter has been a strong community player in Tasmania and will now make an equally strong addition to the Greens Federal MPs’ line up.”
“As a winemaker, economist, academic and vocal opponent of Gunns’ pulp mill, he is a great all rounder and Greens role model.”
“Peter shows that responsible entrepreneurism, sustainable economics and love of Tasmania’s environment can all be complementary and part of the same vision,” said Mr McKim.
