Drug Action Week is a major annual event on the calendar of the alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) sector across the country. The Alcohol Tobacco and Other Drugs Council (Tas) Inc is proud to be supporting the Tasmanian ATOD sector during this year’s Drug Action Week.
A variety of events will be held across the week (Monday 18th June – Friday 22nd June) in Tasmania, including:

Tuesday 19th June
• Anglicare will host Challenging People’s Mind’s at St Helens District High School
• Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation will host a Drug Action Week BBQ from 11am onwards
Wednesday 20th June
• Glenorchy City Council will hold the annual Natural High Day event on the laws of Glenorchy City Council from 2.30pm – 5pm
• No 34 Aboriginal Health Service will be opening their doors for a luncheon from 12pm – 2pm
• ATDC will host the inaugural ATDC Drug Action Week Quiz Night on Wednesday 20 June at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania. It is hoped that the Quiz Night will be an opportunity for workers in the sector to enjoy a fun night out with colleagues and for the broader community to support the work that the sector achieves.
Friday 22nd June
• The Polytechnic, along with several other community ATOD organisations will be hosting a range of activities in Launceston
• Holyoake will have a stall set up at Eastlands shopping centre promoting the theme of looking after YOUR mind
Cornerstone Youth Services in the North of the State will be working with young people from Cape Barron Island to put together 2 TV ads focussing on their interpretation of this year’s theme of DAW.
The Alcohol and Drug Service at St Johns Park, Newtown will host themed days across the week with information available to clients and families.

Youth and Family Focus will be hosting a forum Be Drug Aware on Thursday 5th July at Reece High School in Devonport from 7pm.

“We hope that this year’s Drug Action Week will surpass all previous years” ATDC CEO Jann Smith said.

“Drug Action Week is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness of the harms association with excessive consumption of alcohol and the misuse of other drugs, but also to celebrate the work of the alcohol, tobacco and other drugs sector in Tasmania”, she said.
