Tim Fischer AC ranks Hobart’s Northern Suburbs Rail Project in top 5 Australian Infrastructure Projects
In his keynote address to the Engineering Leadership Conference in Adelaide last week, former Deputy Prime Minister Hon Tim Fischer AC ranked the Hobart Northern Suburbs Rail Project in the top five nation building projects. Tim said “Given the efficiency afforded by a steel wheel on a steel rail, it makes so much sense to proceed given the steel rails are already there in Hobart”.
Rail Action Group President, Ben Johnston, said that “Mr Fischer has taken an active interest in the progression of this important project and is a strong champion of it. He has been kind enough to share his rail expertise and speaks passionately about the economic opportunities that reinstating modern passenger rail to Hobart’s northern suburbs would bring.”
“Mr Fischer’s study of rail systems both nationally and internationally has led him to advocate that passenger rail delivers far more than just fast an efficient transport mode, but that it is a key stimulus for economic and social prosperity” said Mr Johnston.
“We are delighted that Mr Fischer will be visiting Hobart on Friday 8 June to meet with our political leaders and discuss how Hobart would benefit from the Hobart Northern Suburbs Rail Project. Mr Fischer will also be the guest speaker at a lunch for which all members of the public are encouraged to attend” said Mr Johnston.
Mr Fischer will present “Light Rail: Fast-tracking Hobart’s Economy” on Friday 8 June, 12noon (for 12:15pm start), at the Henry Jones Art Hotel. Tickets for the lunch are available for $40pp by contacting the Rail Action Group on 0437 967 786 or by emailing [email protected]
