The Mountain of Pumpkins initiative started in 2011 will today bear fruit, with the program’s
4-month old pumpkins, grown by students at New Town Primary school, ready for harvest
and distribution to nationwide charity Foodbank.

Founder Martin Waldhoff from Fall Real Estate, said his passion to promote the healthy
eating message amongst Tasmania’s youth was the genesis behind Mountains of Pumpkins.

“I wanted to create something that had depth to it,” Mr Waldhoff said.

“The program has a focus on healthy eating, whilst also encouraging kids to get outside and
be involved in the garden.”

Mr Waldhoff also encouraged people to bring their own pumpkins and donate to this worthy
cause.

“We’d love to see as many people as we can with their pumpkins, the more the merrier.
“Pumpkins are such an honest, wholesome vegetable and they’re easy to transport and
store, which makes them a perfect food to donate to hungry Tasmanians.”

Foodbank Tasmania’s Andrew McMaster, praised the work of New Town Primary School and
Lauderdale Primary School for their enthusiastic participation in the program.

“Everyone has really got into the spirit of the program,” Mr McMaster said.

“We are so pleased that young Tasmanians are becoming involved in charitable activities
and it really is proof that the next generation is community-minded and aware of the
importance of helping those who are less fortunate.

“As a not-for-profit organisation, we’re thrilled when we receive such generous support
from the community and we urge as many people as possible to get behind us and help us
continue to provide services to those who need them.”

Foodbank is a non-denominational, non-profit organisation, which acts as a pantry to over
2,500 charities, community groups and schools who provide food relief to the community.
