North by North opens at the Moonah Arts Centre on Thursday 5th April. The exhibition runs from Saturday 7th April until Thursday 26th April and is open 10am- 5pm Tuesday-Friday and 11am -2pm Saturday.
North by North is an exhibition of contemporary visual art by five artists who have recently moved to the Northern Suburbs. They explore, observe and celebrate their new neighbourhood in sculpture, installation, painting and new media work. The exhibition seeks to establish connections to locality and community, whilst contributing to the current dialogue on the intersections of art, community and industry, and shifting demographics in the Northern Suburbs.
Julie Monro-Allison graduated from the Australian National University in 2007 and now lives in Moonah. She works predominately in sculpture and her work investigates manifestations of creativity within the local community.
Julia Castiglioni-Bradshaw completed her Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at the Australian National University in 2007. She has worked on a series of drawings based on the landscape and mechanical structures of Prince of Wales Bay.
Darren Cook is a current MFA candidate at University of Tasmania. Working with video, sound, performance and installation, his practice investigates interstitial relationships between live and recorded events exploring temporal feedback and contingent narratives.
Tyler Faulsitch graduated from Western Washington University with a double degree in Fine Art and Geography. His drawings play with the visual associations of industry.
Timothy Gray Price completed his Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) at the Australian National University in 2006. For this exhibition his paintings are put together from things and people he sees around Moonah.
The exhibition will be opened by Sean Kelly, Arts Officer at Moonah Arts Centre and will include a musical performance by Kieth Ora.
