TASMANIA, 29 November 2011 – Residents of Northern Tasmania have thrown down the gauntlet to
their Southern counterparts as they lead the way in spreading the Christmas spirit by donating to the
Kmart Wishing Tree Appeal.
Residents from the North and North-West coast have already donated 390 gifts to the Appeal after
just two weeks, leading the 267 gifts donated in the South of the State.
Salvation Army Captain Craig Wood said the Appeal was a great way to show support for people
struggling this Christmas.
“The Tasmanian community has really opened their hearts and contributed, and we are on track to
reach our goal of helping the many families who seek out The Salvation Army for gifts for their
families at Christmas,” Captain Wood said.
“There’s only a few weeks left for people to donate gifts, so hopefully everyone can keep up the
good work and help us achieve a great outcome for struggling families. Even the smallest gifts can
make a big difference to those in need.”
To participate in the Appeal, simply place a gift under the Christmas Wishing Trees located in all
Kmart stores around Australia. Take a gift tag from the tree to identify the age and gender of a
suitable recipient and place it with your gift under the tree. Gifts do not have to be purchased at
Kmart.
Alternatively, you can make a cash contribution to the Appeal at any Kmart store register or online at
www.wishingtree.kmart.com.au
Cash contributions are converted into Kmart gift cards, which are distributed by The Salvation Army,
allowing Appeal recipients to choose their own Christmas gift.
