Cosmos Inc. has today been awarded the prestigious title of Employer of Choice, presented
by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts at a ceremony at Wrest
Point Casino. Open to organisations from both the private and public sectors, the awards
recognise outstanding achievement in employee management.
Established in 1977, Cosmos employs approximately 100 people and delivers more than 125
programs a week for people with intellectual disabilities at 20 sites throughout greater Hobart.
Cosmos CEO, Catherine Viney, said it was a significant achievement for a disability services
organisation such as Cosmos to be recognised with the honour.
“This award is very humbling, and it is recognition of the important work that Cosmos does in
making a positive impact in the lives of people living with an intellectual disability,” Ms Viney
said.
“It is very satisfying for Cosmos and for the disability services sector more broadly to be
recognised in this way.”
She added that having satisfied, committed employees was crucial to providing a high level of
service to clients.
“Our staff are very passionate about what they do. We understand that happy and
enthusiastic staff are more productive, therefore we are constantly striving to ensure our
organisation is a fun, creative and relaxed place to work.
“At Cosmos, we know that it’s not just about rewarding great work, but also building and
fostering a culture of respect. We do this through training and mentoring, flexible,
personalised care and effective communication channels.”
Cosmos program worker, Wayne Jolley said he is proud to work for an organisation that
recognises the range of skills and experience of each individual employee.
“Cosmos has not just given me the opportunity to learn, but also the chance to have an input
into the company and influence how it operates.”
Cosmos provides a range of innovative programs and initiatives to employees, aimed at
maximising employee efficiency and enabling the provision of high quality client services.
