While the early signs are terrific for ChemClear’s upcoming chemical collection run across Tasmania, Apple Isle residents are invited to become even more involved. Just under 8,000 litres of unwanted, obsolete or inherited agvet chemicals has already been registered for disposal in preparation for ChemClear’s December expedition. This figure is a significant increase on the 4,863 retrieved during ChemClear’s last state collection run held in December last year.
It is getting towards that time of year when farms and properties are being cleaned up and this provides a great opportunity to get rid of potentially dangerous agvet chemicals that may be stored in growers sheds.
Upon registration, the chemicals are classified as either group one or group two. Group one chemicals are currently registered products from participating agvet manufacturers and are accepted free of charge. Group two chemicals are products from non-participating manufacturers, unlabelled or unregistered and a fee for disposal per litre is charged to collect these products.
Coming on the back of the biggest-ever ChemClear state collection undertaken in Queensland completed earlier this month, waste holders further south are now able to take advantage of this unique industry stewardship program. National Program Manager Lisa Nixon is excited about the possibility of breaking more collection records at the back-end of this year.
“We are currently sitting on 7,887 litres registered by agvet chemical users from across Tassie, this is particularly encouraging considering we are sitting around the 13,000 mark for the total of chemical collected altogether in our last four collections in the state”, she said
“The booking line closes for this collection on November 18 so I encourage all Tasmanian agvet chemical users to review the chemicals they are storing in their sheds, take an inventory of these products and. register them with us for the upcoming collection in December.”
