Brown calls on Abbott to rebuff Abetz’s anti-Tasmanian stance

Australian Greens Leader Senator Brown has welcomed Opposition Leader Tony Abbott’s visit to Tasmania but has called on Mr Abbott to rebuff the anti-Tasmanian sentiment of Tasmania’s lead Liberal Senator Eric Abetz.

Senator Abetz told the Senate last week that “we don’t want this money spent in Tasmania”, rebuffing the Intergovernmental Agreement delivering $276 million of federal money to Tasmania. (On TT HERE)

The Coalition had been debating its own move to delay a vote on Senator Brown’s motion on 22/09/2011 that the Senate condemn the Coalition for seeking to deny Tasmania these millions of dollars for forestry transition.

“Senator Abetz’s anti-Tasmanian stance has to be seen in the light of his general negativity to federal moves benefiting Tasmania,” Senator Brown said at the time.
