As part of a statewide arts event Iteration: Again, Mona is offering a new, snarly, down and dirty, moving artwork. For the
next four Saturdays from September 17, visitors are invited to see the MONA City Raceway on the Museum roof plaza.
The work entitled, MCR, by Sydney-based artists Marley Dawson and Christopher Hanrahan is one of 13 art projects,
presented by CAST, Hobart, happening across the State from September 18 to October 15.
Materials: 40 tonnes of local soil, 50 international orange and yellow plastic, water-filled, safety barriers, four 70 cc mini
dirt bikes, safety helmets, overalls, gardening gloves, along with artists, curators and creatively selected general public
winners from our MONA Facebook competition.
The creative challenge: “In our work we try to bring together groups of people who may not normally get together. We
also like to get people to try things they don’t normally get a chance to try. Like racing mini dirt bikes at a Museum,” said
Chris Hanrahan. Local mini motorcross owner, Brad Smith, of braaap, provided the bikes.
Races each Saturday between 4pm and 6pm. To enter the the Mona Facebook competition go to MONA City
Raceway.
