This Monday Leon Compton from 936 ABC Radio is joined by veteran ABC producer Justin Murphy for a relaxed chat in a free lunchtime event at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery. They’ll talk about how to make a TV show and take a glimpse behind the scenes of ABC Tasmania’s newest production, Auction Room, hosted by William McInnes, and due to air in 2012.
This is the first of a series of free lunchtime chats with Leon Compton. Over the next few months Leon will be spending regular Monday lunchtimes at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery in conversation with some of ABC Radio’s favourite experts. Everyone is welcome to bring their lunch and enjoy an entertaining and informative hour lifting the lid on media, politics, sports, and everything in between.
Leon’s first guest, veteran journalist and producer Justin Murphy grew up in a family steeped in journalism and broadcasting and has had a long and distinguished career with ABC TV.
Justin and Leon discuss the process of making a TV program and the challenges presented by the brave new world of digital TV with its growing demand for content and increasing range of delivery and look at the development of Justin’s latest brain child, Auction Room.

Biography Justin Murphy
Justin Murphy has worked for ABC TV since 1991, mostly on Current Affairs programs like the 7.30 Report and Foreign Correspondent. But since moving to Tasmania and joining the Collectors team in 2005, he’s criss‐crossed Australia in search of Auction items to test the knowledge and judgement of the Collectors panel. And according to the Collectors’ website guestbook, over a million viewers play theauction guessing game every Friday night too!
