TASMANIAN GREENS
MEDIA RELEASE
The Tasmanian Greens today welcomed Labor’s announcement that it will be endorsing candidates for the Hobart and Glenorchy City Council elections in October.
Party Manager Suzanne Cass said:
‘It is good to see some transparency happening with the Labor Party. The Greens have been upfront in endorsing in candidates for local government for some years now, and of course we know that many sitting Aldermen clearly have party allegiances, although they do not at this time declare that. Now it will be made clear to voters exactly what candidates stand for. It is also disingenuous for the Liberal Party to claim that they do not officially endorse candidates, when it is widely known that there are members and supporters of the Liberal Party on Councils around Tasmania.
‘The Greens members of Hobart City Council have always been honest, open, transparent, and independent in their thinking, always representing to the best of their ability the wishes, beliefs and values of their constituents’, Ms Cass concluded.
