Southern Water Chairman Mr Miles Hampton has welcomed the appointment of Mr Nick Burrows and Mrs Sarah Merridew to the Board.
Mr Burrows has had 21 years of commercial experience with ASX listed company, Tassal Group Limited, holding the positions of Chief Financial Officer, Company Secretary, Director – Finance and Infrastructure and General Manager – Corporate Services and Finance. He has contemporary strategic, financial and risk management expertise and significant operational understanding of corporate accounting and treasury functions. He has best practice understanding of compliance and governance in a regulated environment as well as a proven ability to work within regulatory regimes.
Mr Burrows has held a diverse portfolio of board positions. His roles in the private sector have ranged from Independent Non-Executive Director of VEC Civil Engineering to the not-for-profit sector where he is currently Chairman of Tasmanian Quality Assured Inc. He has experience as an Audit Committee member including at VEC, the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment and local government.
Mr Burrows has also had a long involvement with Chartered Secretaries Australia including serving as National President and currently serving on the Tasmanian Branch Council.
Southern Water Chairman, Mr Miles Hampton, said he was pleased to welcome Mr Burrows to the role of Director, adding that he brought skills to Southern Water that complemented those of the Board.

Mr Hampton also welcomed the March 10 appointment of Sarah Merridew as the water and sewerage corporations’ Common Director. Mrs Merridew has served on the board of Ben Lomond Water. She is a Chartered Accountant and a Director of Mystate Limited, Tasmanian Railway Pty Ltd, and is Honorary Treasurer of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Tasmanian Section) Inc. and actively involved with other community organisations.
She was formerly a director of Tasmanian Public Finance Corporation, and Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees and a partner of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu including a period as Managing Partner for Tasmania. She has extensive experience in providing audit, risk management, governance, and business advisory services to the public and private sectors.
Mrs Merridew has also been appointed Chair of the Tasmanian Water & Sewerage Corporations’ Audit and Risk Committees.
