Furniture designers, artists and craftspeople are invited to enter the third acquisitive Clarence
Prize for Excellence in Furniture Design, now with total prize money of $14,000.
Clarence City Council launched the biennial Clarence Prize for Excellence in Furniture
Design in 2007. The biennial prize seeks to encourage excellence in art and design practice,
while enhancing the City of Clarence’s art collection with significant works.
The Clarence Prize is now finding its niche within Australia’s art community as a prize that
celebrates accessible furniture art, with entry numbers for its second exhibition in 2009
increasing by 25 per cent.
“With its focus on furniture design, it is anticipated that the Clarence Prize will establish a
solid position in the biennial arts prize calendar, for both artists and designers, and lovers of
art and design,” said Ald Jock Campbell, Mayor of Clarence.
“The Prize contributes to Tasmania’s reputation as a leading cultural hub, brimming with
vibrant arts experiences.”
Entries in this year’s event must submitted by 3 June, with notice of shortlisted applicants to
be announced on 20 June. The exhibition at the Barn, Rosny Farm in Hobart, will open on 13
October.
Entry forms will be available from 1 April at www.ccc.tas.gov.au or email
[email protected].
The winner will receive $12,000 with the winning work becoming part of the Clarence
Collection. Two prizes of $1000 each will be awarded to two non-acquisitive encouragement
awards. Entries will be judged by Pippa Dickson and Leo Schofield.
