Pre-emptive signing of a 60 million dollar contract to foil moves by the Hobart City Council. Call upon the State Government to direct the Water Corporations not to sign the contract
Mr Miles Hampton, Chairman of the three water corporations including Southern Water will be signing (by Friday 4th February) a sixty million dollar contract with an interstate firm for the controversial water meter rollout throughout Tasmania.
On Thursday 3rd February a invitation only meeting will be held by Southern Water for owner representations and community leaders to give them the first opportunity to see the cut down versions of its own cost benefit analysis and a business case for water meters.
“This action by the Chairman of Southern Water Corporation is a pre emptive and arrogant move by Southern Water considering the views of its owner councils and we call upon the State Government to direct the Water Corporations not to sign the contract so to give the public an opportunity to be consulted” said Alderman Briscoe
On Monday this week the Hobart City Council voiced its opposition and signalled a elector poll, public meetings and legal action to stop the rollout.
