“THE number of Tasmanians stuck in the unemployment line for up to two years continues to increase and remains the highest in the nation, new Treasury analysis has shown.
“Tasmanian teenagers are also having trouble finding work, with 20 per cent of all 15 to 19-year-olds unable to find full-time work.”
So opens a Mercury story by Damien Brown, TASSIE’S JOBLESS SHAME – link:

So, tell me if I’ve got this right – mindful of the adage about simple solutions to complex problems usually being wrong:
HERE & NOW (i) we have shortages in some job areas;
SO (ii) we import [semi-]skilled foreigners, some permanently, most temporarily (well, that was the original intention), many of whom have very low English skills and / or few clues about our life, heritage, traditions and (work) culture,
WHICH (iii) creates a need to give them extra language & cultural training, as well as, in many technical areas, extra training to bring them up to ASA standards;
AND (iv) many of these immigrant workers are from poorer countries which need their skills back there,
SO (v) we increase foreign aid (much of which goes via corrupt pockets to Swiss bank accounts) to improve their training & education over there;
WHILE (vi) thousands of our own un/under employed youth & young adults lack jobs,
WITH (vii) “20 per cent of all 15 to 19-year-olds unable to find full-time work”.
That’s it in steps (i) to (vii) – have I got it right? Have I missed a step?
(PS: guess which political party shut down our tech schools.)
