THE future of Liberal leader Will Hodgman has become the central issue of the new State Parliament.
Debate yesterday was dominated by simmering Opposition leadership tensions.
The Liberal Opposition was left squirming as the new Labor-Greens Government took direct aim at the “weak” leadership of Mr Hodgman.
And within the Liberal Party, backroom chats are starting to countenance the possibility of top performer and shadow treasurer Peter Gutwein taking over from Mr Hodgman.
The issue became the hot topic of the second day of Parliament yesterday as the Labor-Greens Government relentlessly claimed Mr Gutwein was poised to grab leadership from Mr Hodgman.
But Mr Gutwein said the idea was rubbish and denied any number-counting occurring in Liberal ranks.
“I am absolutely behind my leader Will Hodgman, 100 per cent,” Mr Gutwein said.
He refused to discuss the issue further.
