“I recognise the efforts of the workers and also of Jon Ryder who have squeezed every ounce of efficiency out of equipment onsite in an attempt to keep the mills competitive in recent years” –
said Senator Richard Colbeck (Mills jobs shredded as Government stalls).

Yea right – Senator Colbeck, I notice that you did not mention with one word the missed opportunity for FSC – Forest Stewardship Council certified feedstock “Made in Tasmania”.

The ALARM BELLS were ringing for many month now, as I can well recall sitting together with Jon Ryder and others of his management team at their Wesley Vale Mill in early September 2007 and being asked (by the manager) to support their outspoken company’s desire to get FSC certified feedstock (for the Mills in Tasmania) from either Forestry Tasmania or GUNNS Limited, as this would allow the two mills to cater for a lucrative FSC Paper market.

But after that meeting there was silence, very obvious silence; the media was not interested …

Now the horse has bolted and the end is near.

Sad but true.
