Greens Lead Candidate for Braddon Paul O’Halloran today was joined by Greens Leader Nick McKim MP to announce a further three candidates who will join him in the contest to win a Braddon seat in the coming state election.
Joining Paul O’Halloran will be Melissa Houghton, from Port Sorell; David Henderson from Preston; and Claire Gilmour from Circular Head.
Mr O’Halloran also said that the Greens will be running a full ticket of five candidates, with the fifth candidate to be announced at a later date.
“The Tasmanian Greens are delighted to be able to present to the electorate a team with a broad range of skills, and with an ideal mix of youth and experience,” said Mr O’Halloran.
“Travelling around the West Coast and north west coast, people are fed-up with the Labor government, and are ready for a positive and constructive change.”
“We are committed to winning a Greens seat in Braddon, and I’m confident that this is the team to do it.”
Ms Houghton, who grew up on the north coast and now works in her family’s eco-tourism business, said, “Planning for a brighter future encapsulates the essence of core Greens values. I want to apply my skills to ensuring that the next generation has the privilege of living in an unspoiled Tasmania, where the synergy between nature and economics comes to fruition.”
Mr Henderson said, “I am passionate about looking after our fertile agricultural soils and our clean, productive fisheries, which are so important to the lifestyle and economy here in the northwest.”. Mr Henderson is a volunteer firefighter, and President of the North West Environment Centre where he has been involved in a range of practical landcare and sustainability projects.
Claire Gilmour is a sixth-generation Tasmanian, and has a background in small business. “ I care deeply for my community and the local environment, and in creating positive, sustainable outcomes for the Braddon district,” Ms Gilmour said. “I will endeavour to encourage realistic initiatives to grow and support the Braddon/Circular Head area”.
