· We need to ensure that this blitz has a sustained impact.
· Tasmanians continue to support investigating new ways to curb street
violence here in Tasmania.
Tasmania’s involvement in the nationwide police blitz on drunken violence is a welcome step
towards a sustained campaign highlighting the consequences of violence in our community.
This campaign will bring a very high and intense level of attention directly on drunken violence in
our streets, and this is exactly what is needed to start to drill into Tasmanians that violence is not
ok.
To support this campaign, and ensure that its impact is long lasting, we need to implement an
ongoing campaign that targets a cultural change by attaching social stigma to violence. This
campaign needs to be founded in educating our community on the consequences of violence.
Over 900 individuals have joined my facebook push to get an ongoing campaign against street
violence up and going here in Tasmania, and I think that speaks for itself in terms of the support
needed to at least investigate how we could go about actually putting this in place.
Coordinated approach on street violence
