Tasmanian Greens tell Triple M ‘No’ to supporting building an AFL stadium
Tasmanian Greens leader, Rosalie Woodruff MP, has joined Triple M Breakfast with Kaz & Tubes, to discuss the Greens upcoming strategy for the Tasmanian state election.
Woodruff outlined whether the Greens still oppose a stadium at Macquarie Point (“Yes, we do.”) and the issues she thinks are the most important to Tasmanians (“housing, health, cost-of-living, and environment.”)
00min20sec: On how the Greens are feeling moving into the election campaign
“We’re just really excited and so energised to get out and have conversations with the changes we want to make.”
01min00sec: On the Greens recommendations to fix Ambulance Ramping
“The ambulance ramping enquiry did have some really awful stories. But it also gave so many solutions and ideas for improvements, some of which the Government has taken up, clearly, they saw the writing on the wall – change needs to happen.”
“These things aren’t too hard to fix, but it takes a will to not just do incremental bits and pieces changes, but to get in there, listen to people on the front-line, and make the sensible changes in housing, health, cost-of-living, and environment.”
02min10sec: On the housing situation facing Tasmanians
“It’s a terrible crisis. The Greens have announced two policies over the last couple of days. The first one is the Government have a proposal to build 10,000 houses by 2030 – we love that. But the problem is the money put into it isn’t going to be enough… it’ll only build 3,000 houses. So, we have done the numbers and we are committing to an investment of four-times the annual budget, so we can actually get to 10,000 houses.”
02min50sec: On whether the Greens still oppose a stadium at Macquarie Point – and whether they support the 19th AFL license in Tasmania
“Yes, we do. Our commitment to that license with Jeremy and Rebecca was for a 19th license in Tasmania, to put money into community sports, and bring the AFLW in at the same time… we were really clear that we can’t afford a stadium.”
“We want to inject some energy into the north of the state as well. The idea of jamming everything into Macquarie Point when that money should be spent building houses, ambulance stations, and all the other critical services that we need. It’s just not right.”
05min10sec: On whether the Greens would consider involvement in a minority government
“Of course, it can work. Absolutely, it can work.”
“We are about transparency and accountability. We want to make sure that we end the donations that go to the Labor and Liberal Parties, where they don’t declare donations and we don’t know the special interests backing them. But, we see the outcomes when they won’t act in Macquarie Harbour or when they roll over with the pokies.”
