Premier remains silent on future of historic South Hobart Adult Ed site;
Liberal candidate, Ald Elise Archer, calls on the State Government to immediately rule out selling off the historic site for commercial development.
Liberal Candidate for Denison, Alderman Elise Archer, wants to ensure the Adult Ed heritage site in South Hobart, which recently closed, is not sold by the State Government.
“I again call on the Premier to rule out selling off this historic site for commercial development, which was once the South Hobart Primary School.”
“Many residents in South Hobart have contacted me since I first called on the Premier to rule out selling off the site, to express their full support for my call,” says Ald Elise Archer.
“This historic heritage building was built with public funds in 1895 for educational use. Now Adult Education has vacated the site, the Premier and Education Minister David Bartlett must reassure the public that the buildings will not be sold for any private purpose.”
“If Mr Bartlett fails to do that, people will be rightly cynical about the State Government’s intention in regard to this public facility, which should remain in public ownership.
“I believe the building is heritage listed and therefore, it must be preserved for the South Hobart and greater Hobart communities into the future,” Ald Elise Archer says.
