Tasmanian Athlete of The Year
On Wednesday evening at Princes Wharf 1, the TIS hosted a special cocktail function, supported by 7Tasmania, celebrating the 2022 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year and the Tasmania Sporting Hall of Fame.Georgia Baker was announced as the 2022 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year.The award recognises outstanding performances at the international level, contribution to the athlete’s sport and contribution to the Tasmanian community.The finalists for the 2022 Tasmanian Athlete of the Year were:
- Georgia Baker (cycling)
- Josh Beltz (hockey)
- Eddie Ockenden (hockey)
- Ariarne Titmus (swimming)
- Matthew Wade (cricket)
- Henry Youl (rowing)
It’s been a remarkable year for Georgia, having achieved the following results:
- Three gold medals at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games in the Teams Pursuit, 25km Points Race and Road Race. The Australian Team set a new Commonwealth Games record in the Teams Pursuit.
- A bronze medal at the 2022 World Road Championships in the Teams Time Trial and an eighth place finish in the Individual Time Trial.
- Two fourth place finishes in the Teams Pursuit and Madison at the 2022 World Track Championships.
