Strong and damaging winds on Monday, with further rainfall in the north of Tasmania
Strong and damaging northwesterly winds are likely to develop across much of Tasmania during Monday, with wind gusts of 90 to 100 km/h expected throughout most parts of the state. These wind gusts could possibly exceed 100 km/h across southern and southern half of Tasmania, including Hobart.
A Severe Weather Warning for the damaging northwesterly winds is expected to be issued tomorrow.
Moderate rainfall is expected across northern and western Tasmania during Monday, with widespread falls of 10 to 20 mm across much of the north and 20 to 40 mm across more elevated parts of the northwest and northeast. Rainfall of more than 40 mm is possible across the Western Tiers.
This rainfall will result in renewed river level rises, with minor flooding likely in catchments where flooding is already occurring including the North Esk and South Esk Rivers, Meander River and the lower reaches of the Macquarie Rivers.
Particularly high tides are expected across many Tasmanian coasts on Monday and Tuesday, however significant tide impacts are not expected.
On Tuesday, a cold west to southwesterly airstream will develop across Tasmania and prevail for the remainder of the week, bringing cool weather to the state.
Snow is expected to settle above 700 meters during Wednesday and Thursday.
