Blocks Move for Friday Sitting

The Tasmanian Greens today accused the Bartlett government of running and hiding after it used its numbers to block moves to have the House of Assembly sit on Friday, which would have ensured the standard three day sitting week was maintained.

Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said it is clear that the Bartlett government does not have a legislative agenda, and instead prefers to cut and run from the Parliament rather then face ongoing scrutiny on important issues like the Tasmania Tomorrow debacle and the bungled Water and Sewerage reforms.

“The House of Assembly is only sitting two days this week due to the Launceston Show Day, and while the Premier may wish to take it easy by only attending one of those Question Times, we are prepared to sit an extra day on Friday to ensure that many outstanding issues are addressed,” Mr McKim said.

“This government is running out of steam, and is now running away from scrutiny.”
