HOUSING FORUM NO SHOW NOT GOOD ENOUGH

There is significant pressure on housing affordability and accessibility, and all levels of government need to get serious about fixing the problem. So to see the Liberal Party not send a representative, and Labor only send the Shadow Minister’s chief of staff, to the National Shelter Housing Forum is not good enough. Housing is an issue of utmost importance and should be a top priority for both parties.

The Federal Government must take the reins to address Australia’s housing crisis and that includes implementing a National Housing Strategy and increasing federal investment. It also means increasing Commonwealth Rent Assistance, boosting the number of social housing dwellings, more crisis and supported accommodation, limits on the conversion of long-term rentals to short-stay accommodation, and reforming capital gains tax and negative gearing.
