Media release – Dr Mark Veitch, Director of Public Health, 27 July 2021
COVID-19 update – SA/Vic
The Director of Public Health has advised that from midnight tonight South Australia will no longer be designated as a high-risk area.
This means that from midnight tonight people in home or hotel quarantine in Tasmania because they were recently in South Australia will be able to leave quarantine as long as they have not been at a high-risk area in another state or listed high-risk premises in the past 14 days.
It also means that from tomorrow people will be once again able to enter Tasmania from SA provided they have not been at high-risk premises in SA or high-risk premises or areas elsewhere in Australia in the past 14 days.
The decision was made based on the current favourable situation in South Australia, with no further community cases, no additional exposure sites, and the well-understood sources of cases’ infections.
People who have been at a listed high-risk premises in South Australia are still required to remain in quarantine until their quarantine and testing requirements have been completed.
Victoria remains designated as a high-risk area. The Victorian outbreak has been much larger, with numerous exposure sites and thousands of quarantined contacts.
However, as Victoria emerges from their lockdown, the situation is steadily improving and Public Health will review the State’s designation as high-risk on Thursday.
People who have recently entered Tasmania from interstate are reminded to check for newly listed high-risk premises in the jurisdictions they visited every day for 14 days after arriving in Tasmania.
