THERE is no willingness in Tasmania to prevent raw drinking water contamination and minimise human pesticide exposures.
Even when documented overdrift from aerial spraying causes harm; apparently because there is no industry standard on best practice aerial spraying, no action by a Government Department needs to be taken.
And who is responsible for protecting us from the exposure to toxic pesticides?
The answer would appear to be no-one.
As the song says “you can’t run and you can’t hide’ from it; pesticides in spray drift, run-off after rain and soil blowing in high winds contaminates our water, soil, food and air.
APVMA and DPIW continue to delay reviews by their non-acceptance of endocrine disruption, despite the EU already clearly defining current ‘best world practice’. Apparently Australia cannot take note of the EU’s scientific assessments, or the Collaborative on Health and the Environment.
This goes completely against the consensus statement: “The Black Mountain Declaration” (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals in Australian Waters 2007).
Communities can take action; contact Federal and State Ministers- Burke, Garrett, Roxon and Wong, LLewellyn, Giddings and O’Byrne.
They need to hear from you soon.
