Now is the time for opponents to be getting on the front foot. The elephant in the room re the large scale job losses on the NW coast is the fact that the local community on the NW coast voted (in polls) to have the pulp mill yet their elected reps – Green, Best, Kons, Rockcliff, Whiteley did not lift a finger to secure it for them. For those who were there, remember the healthy democracies meeting at the tailrace in April 2008 when Rockcliff was defending his support for the pulp mill saying he was a farmer and farmers (he was referring to ‘tenants’ of former farms that had become industrial tree plantations) on the NW coast needed the pulp mill and how it was his job to represent their interests. Dr. Warwick Raverty then stood up and asked him why he had made no effort to lobby Gunns the govt or RPDC to have the mill at Hampshire? Rockcliff just sat there and said nothing. End of story. Same goes for Green et al. Why did these jokers not lift a finger to secure jobs for their communities? I challenge anyone to find me evidence on Hansard of any of these elected reps. from the NW coast lobbying the parliament and Gunns to have the mill at Hampshire. And before people leap down my throat and cry we don’t want a mill at Hampshire either – well neither do I. It’s not going to hampshire so don’t worry. Read more, Comment here
