Bob McMahon Tasmanians Against the Pulp Mill MR
“The Tasmanian community acknowledges that Garrett’s decision could have been worse. Nevertheless, he and the Rudd government have condemned the people of Tasmania and the communities of the Tamar Valley in particular, to at least two more years of uncertainty and conflict,” said Bob McMahon, TAP spokesperson. “This may well force a recession onto the Tamar Valley as investment in the region continues to dry up because of the continuing threat of the mill. The property market collapsed years ago and people have held off investing for four years in the hope that the mill will be knocked on the head.

TASMANIANS AGAINST the PULPMILL (TAP)
MEDIA RELEASE January 5th 2009
Two More Years of Conflict and Unrest
“The Tasmanian community acknowledges that Garrett’s decision could have been worse. Nevertheless, he and the Rudd government have condemned the people of Tasmania and the communities of the Tamar Valley in particular, to at least two more years of uncertainty and conflict,” said Bob McMahon, TAP spokesperson.
“This may well force a recession onto the Tamar Valley as investment in the region continues to dry up because of the continuing threat of the mill. The property market collapsed years ago and people have held off investing for four years in the hope that the mill will be knocked on the head.
“Tomorrow’s demonstration outside Jodie Campbell’s office is an opportunity for the community to express its resolve to save the Tasmanian economy from the ravages of this discredited mill, which has only got this far because of government sponsorship and a corrupted assessment process.
“The community would like to thank Jodie Campbell for advising Peter Garrett of the depth of the community opposition to the pulp mill and the assessment process, and also for her opposition to the pulp mill.”
