Nick McKim Greens Leader
“Having Mr Chipman chained to my desk would give me the opportunity to educate him about the overwhelming scientific evidence that logging Tasmania’s magnificent high conservation value forests contributes massively to climate change.”
“I would also remind him of his abject failure to stick up for forest contractors while they were being sent to the wall by oppressive contracts, and I could also ask him why he remained silent when Gunns Ltd sacked 120 sawmill workers at Auspine, and why he has not supported the Greens’ proposal for a job creating radial sawmill at Scottsdale.”

The Tasmanian Greens today responded to the threat from Timber Communities Australia’s Barry Chipman to chain himself to Greens Leader Nick McKim’s desk.
Mr McKim said that he would be grateful if Mr Chipman were to chain himself to his desk for a while, so that they could discuss the massive carbon emissions caused by the logging industry.
“I could also remind Mr Chipman that the community made it very clear during the Tasmania Together process that clearfelling our high conservation value forests should have ceased years ago, and that it is the government’s failure to listen that is driving the conflict in our forests and our community.”
