DAVID LLEWELLYN – professed Christian, Anglican lay reader set to celebrate the season of peace and goodwill – is an idiot. His terrorist reference is thoughtless and inflammatory; unworthy of a leading politician. It raises all sorts of terrible associations. What is this establishment mindset which castigates and vilifies, which devises appalling exercises in bad taste: Peter Henning: Police need to expand their vision. David Llewellyn must apologise. Now. The thoughtless vilification of peaceful environmental activists is a siren call to thuggery, an incitement to hatred and intolerance.
It is Lennon-era rhetoric which can only promote division and incite violence at a time, more than ever, when people need to be brought together. It is of course irresponsible and undeniably stupid. Sadly the Labor Party seems to wish to make hate, division and violence Tasmania’s destiny.
So much for kind, clever and connected …

The Tasmanian Greens today demanded an apology from Minister David Llewellyn after he labelled forest activists as ‘terrorists’ yesterday. Greens Leader Nick McKim MP said that Mr Llewellyn should not only apologise for the remark, but should also apologise for his support of public policy frameworks which have allowed forest contractors to be driven to the wall in recent years.
Mercury, Thursday:
Ms Majewski said the “terrorist” comment was disgraceful, slanderous and highly offensive. “Comparing this peaceful protest with an act of terrorism is a disgusting trivialisation of the term terrorism — a serious global threat that is costing people’s lives,” she said. Tasmania Police apologised last week for linking forest activists with terrorist activities during a training exercise in Devonport. … Forest Industries Association of Tasmania chief executive Terry Edwards said “guerrilla tactics” from “eco-terrorists” did not deserve an apology.
“Describing peaceful environmental activism as terrorism trivialises the millions of lives around the world that have been destroyed by real terrorists, and says a lot more about Mr Llewellyn than the people he was seeking to describe.”
“Mr Llewellyn’s hand-wringing about the impacts of yesterday’s action on contractors would be a lot more believable if he had supported the Greens’ proposal for a financial assistance package instead of voting it down in Parliament recently.”
“Mr Llewellyn should apologise for his intemperate remarks, and if he refuses, David Bartlett should insist.”
