A Pint of History is back for 2019! We have a schedule full of more fascinating evenings, and you can get ahead of the crowd to grab your ticket for any or all already! Just head to our Pint of History Eventbrite page to see everything that is coming up.

We just want to remind everyone that while events do often run out of tickets, you’re still welcome to turn and and squeeze into a corner! If we get too full, we will give priority to people on the list. But when we get to standing room, if you’re able to perch or lean rather than sit, please be considerate of those who do need a seat.

Thank you everyone who continue to come along to make A Pint of History a success!

Mythical Beasts
and Where We Didn’t Find Them

Did you know that the phrase ‘to lick into shape’ is thought to come from ancient (77AD then the medieval period) ideas that bears were born shapeless, and had to be licked into their bear-ish form by their mothers? Or that wombats sent to Britain to be preserved in the nineteenth century were sometimes posed standing on their back legs, as the taxidermists didn’t know what they were supposed to look like?

The weird and wonderful lives of animals have remained mysterious to humans since the very beginning, with theories and myths growing around unexplained noises and discoveries. Come along to our first A Pint of History of 2019 to hear about some great misunderstandings of the natural world.
