Pro-Gun Comments

Guy Croswell – 7300 – “I don’t believe there should be any changes to the laws, we as firearm owners already abide by very strict laws and regulations. I do however support any extra punishments or changes to the laws that are focused on the criminals that are doing the wrong thing in relation to firearms. I also believe there should be more done in the intelligence agencies to focus on the criminals and extremists to keep firearms out of their hands. I believe we are quite often treated unfairly and scape goated for no wrong doing of our own.”

Anti-Gun Comments

Maria Riedl – 7004 – “The murder of a policeman doing his job is due to unworkable, unlimited, weak Tasmanian gun control laws are due to political pressure from gun owners and shooters and some politicians. It totally unacceptable that in the face of Tasmanian police deaths, in the face of the Tasmanian Police Commissioner’s pleas for limit on gun ownership the Tasmanian government is ignoring the deaths of our police and citizens. Tasmania’s police commissioner wrote to the state government urging it to adopt tougher laws on the number of firearms a person can own — but to no avail. I totally agree that the police request/plea MUST be listened to and acted upon in the face of selfish/illogical interests.

The Tasmanian Police Commissioner requests:
I ask that there be a limit on gun ownership in Tasmania and since the Tasmanian government is being obstinate: Three weeks after the letter was sent to Minister Ellis, the Tasmanian government ruled out including a cap on the number of guns people can own.
“We will not be introducing caps,” said Premier Jeremy Rockliff at the time.
This attitude is unacceptable, as it is not Mr Rockliff in the firing line, it is our police and law keepers who are under threat and these people have families, they have friends and they MUST be protected.
Remember Port Arthur?
Capping the number of guns owned immediately is the only option.

Bob Hawkins – 7109 – “No-one can have a serious reason to own a firearm except perhaps for putting down uncontrollable mortally injured animals or rendering them helpless.”
