Earlier this year, I had the chance to speak to Devonport composer, producer of live performances and self-taught musician Jim Reece.

This month Reece brings to Tassie stages his show ‘Still the One – The Music of Shania Twain’.

He is ably assisted by his own ‘Shania’, well-known Tassie performer, Sherry Rand. Sherry will be backed by a “big band, of some top Tassie musicians”.

Reece say’s Rand nails it in every way, from the country hair to looks and sound of Shania herself.

“Sherry” says Reece, “is the linchpin” and the “cherry on the cake”.

There are over twenty songs in the set from the opening of ‘I Feel Like a Woman’, which metaphorically “kicked the door open for Twain” as she “created a massive shift in country music creating a hybrid of country pop”.

Audiences will also hear songs such as ‘That Don’t Impress Me Much’ and ‘You’re Still the One’.

Reece says that Shania’s ‘Come on Over’ album, which features the Grammy Award winning ‘You’re Still the One’ is still the biggest selling album by a female country artist.

You can see ‘Still the One – The Music of Shania Twain’ at the following dates and venues:

  • Friday 24 of July at Wrest Point Casino, Hobart
  • Saturday 25 of July at the Country Club Casino, Launceston
