From Gore to Glory – Jenny Mitchell Returns to Tasmania

Award winning songwriter brings The Forest House Tour to Hobart after career defining year with Kasey Chambers
Ten years ago, a 15 year old girl from Gore, New Zealand’s self-proclaimed country music capital, stood on the stage of NZ’s Got Talent and placed third. What happened next wasn’t a fairy tale overnight success story – it was something better. It was the beginning of a decade long journey of songwriting, touring and honing a craft that would eventually see Jenny Mitchell sharing stages with one of Australia’s most beloved artists.
“I crowdfunded my first album after that TV show,” Mitchell recalls.
“I’ve spent most of my life since then writing and touring around New Zealand and Australia.”
That commitment has paid dividends in 2025, a year Mitchell describes as nothing short of life changing.
Earlier this year, Mitchell completed a 32-date Australian tour supporting Kasey Chambers, visiting every state and charming audiences from coast to coast – including memorable shows in Hobart.
“Touring with Kasey was such a dream,” Mitchell says.
“I’ve listened to her music my whole life. It was such an honour to be able to watch and learn from a songwriter I respect so much. An absolutely life changing tour.”
The experience wasn’t lost on Chambers either, who has been vocal in her support of Mitchell’s work. For a young artist who grew up listening to Chambers’ groundbreaking albums, sharing a stage night after night represented both a masterclass and a milestone.
Mitchell’s latest album, ‘Forest House’, has garnered extensive support from ABC radio and enthusiastic reviews from industry heavyweights. Country music icon Beccy Cole didn’t mince words – “It’s my favourite album of 2025.”
The album was recorded in a rural New Zealand house with ARIA and Golden Guitar award winning producer Matt Fell at the helm. The setting wasn’t accidental; Mitchell’s connection to place, to the deep south landscapes that shaped her, runs through every track.
Now based in Melbourne after relocating earlier this year, Mitchell has continued to build on her reputation as a NZ Best Country Artist Winner and two time Golden Guitar nominee. But despite the accolades and the touring schedule, there’s a down to earth quality to her work that resonates with audiences across the Tasman.
“Tasmania has a lot of love for folk and country music,” Mitchell notes. “I loved playing Tas shows with Kasey and can’t wait to come back!”
That return happens on 13 November when Mitchell brings The Forest House Tour to Moonah Arts Centre in Hobart.
It’s a chance for Tasmanian audiences to experience the full scope of her artistry in an intimate setting – not as a support act, but as the main event.
The following day, she’ll head to the Mt Roland Folk Festival in Sheffield (14-15 November), where her brand of authentic, story driven country folk will be right at home among fellow lovers of the genre.
For those who caught her performances with Chambers earlier this year, 13 November offers a chance to see Jenny Mitchell step fully into her own spotlight.
For those who missed it, it’s an opportunity to discover why she’s being called one of the most exciting voices in Australian country music today.
