Many thanks to everyone who entered!

Here is the winner who will [again] take home $200 for his prize winning entry and we have two honourable mentions.

Winner

Background to this creation from Jim Aiken

Craig decides to take the new runabout for a spin and test his luck with his favourite Tassie Devil Salty lure in the hope of getting a feed for the family – though it appears it’s anything but plain sailing.

Not only do sharks patrol these waters but there are hidden traps for even the most saltily seasoned of anglers. It’s also the realm of Eric the eel whom, apart from power, likes nothing more than the taste of salmon – and by all accounts the funkier the better. Eric shares this realm with that other denizen of the deep, the Octo’Byrne, who defensively and beyond all reason clings to his precious as if for dear life its very self.

He has even been observed using it as a portable shelter/hide that he carries everywhere he goes on the seafloor, retreating to the safety of its familiar and reassuring shadows whenever and if ever he feels threatened. As an aside, I’m almost certain there’s a ‘40,000 Southern Football Leagues Under The Sea’ gag hidden in here somewhere but I was up until after 4am Sunday morning cobbling this together and I’m way too buggered to go into either Clouseau or Cousteau mode in search of it.

Word on the street has it the endangered lesser spotted handball fish has been sighted in the area but it also may have been too tired to make an appearance over the last few days, though I’m almost certain we’ll be hearing from it in the not too distant future.

Editors note: 8 October 2025 is World Octopus Day – a serendipitous moment indeed.

Honourable mentions

Artist and description: Maria Riedl – Trump Tasmania

Background to this creation from Maria Riedl

These people in my cartoon and others (Brendan Gale lied when he said we don’t have a stadium that fits 19,000- in fact we have two!) are Trumps who do cannot read the POSS report they themselves commissioned and instead stupidly reject it without reading it and taking on board the Panels recommendation – No stadium at Macquarie Point. I had to add in details because my listed Trumpians are using their tactics to plain lie and to use diversion tactics to disparage the Tasmanian Planning Commission because they don’t want to know!

I went along to the hearings and the Panel was transparent, logical, listened and asked questions. I wonder how much the fly-in fly-out lawyers etc costs us! Then the Trumpians don’t give a damn! Sickening and it basically shows how ignorant they are. Renegotiate and I say yes to a team but resounding no to a stadium because we already have two!

Artist and description: Gabrielle Peacock – Aiding and Abetting

The AFL deal is smelly and hasn’t passed the pub test. Lots of potential forces driving the elite cartel as the Tasmania we know and love slips away
