Thanking Libraries Tasmania Volunteers During National Volunteer Week
Libraries Tasmania is celebrating National Volunteer Week from 19 May to 25 May 2025 to recognise the work volunteers do each year.
Volunteers in Tasmania’s public libraries make an estimated in-kind contribution of 30,000 hours of support to library visitors.
They provide digital and IT support, deliver books for the Home Library Service, help deliver public programs, support family history research and assist adults with literacy and numeracy skills.
To show their appreciation, Libraries Tasmania will feature volunteer profiles on its social media channels from Monday 19 to Friday 23 May during Volunteer Week.
“I love that you can support someone in the community to find a better life … within the supportive environment that the library offer,” said Lea, a volunteer Literacy Tutor at Hobart Library.
“[Volunteering] is a fantastic opportunity to … make a small contribution towards positive changes in society.”
“It is a great opportunity to feel helpful and useful.,” said Maria, a volunteer at the Tasmanian Archives.
“Everyone is friendly. I have been volunteering for over 10 years.”
