Petition – Save Rosny’s Parks, 3 June 2024
SAVE ROSNY’S PARKS CALL FOR ELECTOR POLL
Save Rosny’s Parks community group/s, having watched the meeting of Clarence City Council on Monday 27 May 2024 are both extremely disappointed and disheartened at how council responded to the six motions overwhelming passed at the Community Open Public Meeting on Wednesday 15th May.
It was as though the public meeting called for by a petition of over 1,000 signatures did not happen and the dismissive attitude of Mayor Brendan Blomeley and council is both deplorable and an embarrassment.
As a result, SRP has been left with no other option than to attempt to collect 1,000 signatures or more in a fortnight to enforce an Elector Poll. Clearly, from listening to the Mayor recently, council is determined to see the Rosny Parklands and/or Charles Hand Memorial Park if necessary, used as the home for the AFL HPC despite what the community wants.
What residents of Clarence think about using Rosny’s parks must be sought as the known views of over 400 who attended the public meeting, clearly have had no effect on the Mayor and several others. Recent public communications are evidence of this. Two other petitions are also live collecting more than 3,000 signatures but the CEO and the Mayor have decided to ignore the results.
In accordance with Section 60D of the Local Government Act 1993, the residents of Clarence will require the Clarence City Council to hold an elector poll within 60 days of receipt of the petition if successful by obtaining the 1,000.
The subject of the poll will be whether the Charles Hand Memorial Park and/or Rosny Parklands should be made available to the AFL for its High Performance Training Centre.
Clarence residents urge the Clarence City Council to heed the voices of its constituents and take decisive action to rectify this situation. The council must prioritise the well-being and interests of the community by engaging in a more inclusive and transparent decision making process in future and to also consider alternative location/s for the AFL High Performance Training Centre.
Last Sunday a walk was organised by the community, it was attended by many with members bringing their dogs. Many Clarence residents are unaware that the Rosny Parklands is open to the public now that it is no longer used as a golf course. The SRP groups are encouraging people to use the parklands as much as possible and are organizing community walks on weekends. Anyone is welcome to join: Sundays 2pm at the Rosny Parklands.
