Hare-Clark Vote Count Commences in State Election
Media release – Tasmanian Electoral Commission, 2 April 2024
Checking and first-preference counting concludes today
At 10 am today, the period for receiving postal ballot papers concluded and the final votes were admitted to the count.
All divisions are expected to complete the necessary preparations for the Hare-Clark count (distribution of preferences) today. Final first-preference figures for each candidate will be updated on the TEC website tonight.
The statewide rate of informal voting has increased to 6.31%, from 5.13% in 2021. More details on these informal ballot papers will be published in the TEC’s 2022-2024 Report on parliamentary elections after the election. The 2019-2021 Report on parliamentary elections is available on the TEC website.
Hare-Clark counts commence
Three divisions (Bass, Braddon and Clark) are aiming to commence the distribution of preferences this evening. In Bass and Braddon, this will begin with distributing surplus votes for candidates elected on first preferences. In the division of Clark, as no one was elected on first preferences, this will commence with the exclusion of candidates with the fewest votes. Franklin and Lyons will start distributing preferences tomorrow morning.
It is expected the distribution process will continue through to at least Saturday and results will be progressively updated on the TEC website.
