Early voting underway for the 2024 State Election

As the first week of early voting draws to a close, over 25,000 Tasmanian electors have participated in early voting processes for the state election.

By the end of Thursday, 7,650 electors had already voted across seven pre-poll centres. Figures for each division are as follows:

Bass: 1,257
Braddon: 1,978
Clark: 1,148
Franklin: 2,197
Lyons: 1,070

The TEC has also packed and posted over 17,400 postal vote packs to electors across the state, in different parts of the country and around the world.

Time is running out to apply for a postal vote

Electors wanting to apply for a postal vote need to send an application now to ensure it is received by the TEC before 4pm Friday 15 March.

“The quickest way people can apply for a postal vote is by downloading and printing an application form from the TEC website,” said Electoral Commissioner Andrew Hawkey, “The form can then be returned to us by email.”

Interstate and overseas voters have an additional voting option available to them for this election. “This is the first time we’re offering telephone voting at a state election, for voters outside of Tasmania,” said Mr Hawkey.

The telephone voting service will be open from 11 am to 5:30 pm on Tuesday 12 March, then 8:30 am to 5:30 pm weekdays. Extended hours, until 6 pm, will be available on Friday 22 March and on polling day – Saturday 23 March.

Election night tally room tradition continues

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission will once again be hosting a tally room on polling night, in the Federation Ballroom at the Hotel Grand Chancellor, in Hobart. This event will be open to the public, further details will be available in the coming weeks.
