Like many things it started well, with front page news for Kevvie: Historic bridge and viewing platform works begin at Waratah | The Advocate | Burnie, TAS 

A commencement was made but that was about it … in the first days the digger slipped into the platypus lake noted for its viewing site.

Since its recovery there has been no activity – see the photos below. Zip zero zilch nada nyet my comrades. The digger has become, well, a non-digger.

I discovered at the Bischoff Hotel on Friday night that they had ceased activity due to the discovery of a platypus breeding tunnel FFS! 

Such incisive research, design and community consultation. NOT! 

Who would have thought, a platypus breeding tunnel at a known platypus site?

And a community group formulated a much easier and environmentally friendly concept some years back. 

The Waratah Loop – Tasmanian Times 

The Waratah-Wynyard Council did nothing to prevent the destruction of the platypus-friendly heritage Waratah Reservoir and now has wasted the $300k given by the Tasmanian Government as recompense. 

What’s the odds a thylacine cave will be discovered when they try to build the waterfall viewing platform? This council’s incompetence has knows no limits so perhaps they could accidentally find an extinct species.

Oh look!

There is much speculation about council amalgamations and I for one would support Waratah and Savage River becoming part of the West Coast Council which is more collaborative and partial to wilderness protection. It’s certainly a debate we should be having.
